Tilda Swinton, 1989

Almeida Theatre, London. Mozart and Salieri by Aleksandr Pushkin. Playing Mozart. I had just entered the Green Room at the Almeida Theater when I saw Tilda sitting in the far corner. She was on her own. Although lit only by a single light bulb above her head, her presence seemed incandescent.
To take such a photo without disturbing the moment or the personn, you have to be very quick. When I firste started taking pictures, at the age of 22, I remember my eldest brothers trying to encourage me by saying that the results I produces went beyond a snapshot - maybe this image is an example of what he meant.
