Biography
Greece / France , 1969
Nikos Aliagas is a French-Greek photographer whose parents fled Greece and emigrated to France in 1964 during the political turbulence that led to the Greek military junta of 1967-74. In a world that moves so fast, Aliagas photographs moments of significant perspective, movement, and detail that document human diaspora encountering its surroundings.
Alongside his career as an anchor for France’s TF1, Aliagas has always pursued personal photographic work. The desire to share the prints comprising the exhibition came after their creation for his personal fulfillment. Coming on the heels of his large format prints shown in a major exhibition at the former palace, French Revolution-era prison, and present Parisian national monument the Conciergerie for the exhibition Body and Soul, Aliagas is going further in presenting forty prints taken in his ancestral Greece. At once his Greece and eternal Greece, the photographer’s images portray places full of emotion and people proud of their past, history, and country. In choosing to call the exhibition Greek Soul, Aliagas reveals the intimate and unspoken in each shot.
