In 1956, I was the assistant to Daniel Filipacchi, founder of the monthly Jazz Magazine. It is for this publication that I made my first pictures. I was only 16 years old! Babs Gonzalez was an atypical musician. He is the composer, with Dizzie Gillespie, of the famous Oop-pop-a-da. Important figure of the bebop era, he is the first to launch in Harlem the fashion of the Basque beret, which will become the rallying sign of the black musicians who want to make believe that they come from Paris.
